本展のタイトルである“Prism” とは、光を分散・屈折させるための、ガラス・水晶などの透明な媒質でできた多面体を意味します。分光学では、太陽光をプリズムに通すと虹の帯が現れますが、プリズムというフィルターを通すことで複雑な情報や信号は分解され、光は、量や強度の順に規則的に並べられます。 アートをプリズムに例えれば、現代アートというものも現代社会の様々な側面を映し出すフィルターの様なものかもしれません。現代アートは、様々な表現方法を駆使して、現代社会が持つ問題や現代社会に生きる人間の内面を多角的に読み解き、違った視点から表現し訴えまた、何より私たちにとって重要な身近な未来を予見し、希望を伝えるものでもあります。ひとりひとりのアーティストが柔軟な視点をもって、アートを通して伝達することの重要性や関係性をあらためて見つめ、変わらなければいけないというメッセージを外部に送りだすのもアートの大きな役割であるのかもしれません。 本展では、そうした過程を経て生みだされた作品が一堂に会することで、アーティストによる一方的なアプローチが空間全体にプリズムを通した光、いわば虹のように広がり、アーティストから鑑賞者へ意識を反映・共有し、鑑賞者から鑑賞者へと意識を連続させることで、アートが社会的文脈でつながっていくことを期待します。

Prism is a transparent glass or plastic object that separates white light that passes through it into different colours. When the sunlight goes through the prism, you would see the rainbow, so prism is like a filter that takes away the complicated information and convert it into a simple order and the amount of the signals and the lights. Contemporary art can be prism to our society. Contemporary art shows, questions and solve the modern issues and artists visualise what is inside of themselves from whole new perspectives; and this is a way of looking at our future. Each artists nowadays have to have flexible perspectives and tell their own stories and concepts through the works they produce. Sending out the messages not just to the art world but the whole contemporary society can be a huge part of contemporary art process. The works produced through the process of “Prism” can spread like the rainbows and potentially be a key to make people wonder about the world they live in.
