現役のグラフィックデザイナーのイダアヤは、自身の作品にはコンピューターも画材も使わず羊毛とミシンを使います。
羊毛はときに染色されたものも使用していますが、糸は基本的には黒だけを使い作品は感覚的で抽象的なカタチを取るときもあれば、骸骨や虫のような具体的なモチーフが出てくることもあります。それは作家自身が「何かを作ろうとして作る」のではなく、「手が動くままに制作」しているからで制作中の作家が身を置いていた環境や流れていたニュースに感じていたことが作品にそのまま表れることもあります。
かつて愛知県芸に在学していた頃の作者は、自身の思考や感覚が外に漏れることに恐怖を感じひた隠し、作品は植物や鉱物の精密画を得意としていました。その頃の作風を意図的に避けるような今の作風ですが、計算された力の抜き方は過去の作品と重ねて見ると、どこかシニカルな雰囲気を纏っています。
本展では、紡がれてもいない羊毛と糸、ふわふわとしたやわらかな素材でイダアヤが作り出す、決して優しいだけではない独特の世界観をお楽しみいただきます。

Aya Ida is a graphic designer, uses wool and sewing machines for his work without using computers or art supplies.
Sometimes wool is dyed, but basically only black threads are used and the work is sensuous and takes an abstract shape and sometimes there may be a practical motif like a shape of skeleton or insect. It wasn’t because the artist himself “was making something to make”, but “was creating with the movement of hands”, so the feelings that artist has got due to the environment where he was creating or the news he heard may appear in the work as it is.
When he was a student at Aichi Prefectural University of Arts, Aya Ida was afraid that his thoughts and sensations will leak out, and he focused on creation of detailed paintings of plants and minerals. The current style is the one he was intentionally avoiding at that time, but the calculated method of pulling out the power is wearing a cynical atmosphere when you look at the past works.

In this exhibition, you will enjoy a unique world view that is not only gentle, but created by Aya Ida using unspun wool and yarn, and fluffy and soft materials.
