梅田綾香は伝統的な染色技法の蝋染めを用いて新たな絵画表現を追求している。蝋染めは熱した蝋を筆にふくませ布に浸透させることで、その浸透した部分に染料が入らなくする模様染めの技法である。

梅田が染色で表現する理由は、自身の想像を超えた世界を表現できる可能性を感じているからである。水に乗って動く染料の粒子は、完全に制御することはできない。染色は絵画と異なり、「する」ものではなく、「なる」ものと言われ、時に誰もが想像し得なかった世界を生み出す。梅田は染色によってできる新たな世界を見てみたいという衝動から、幼い頃から親しんだ周囲の自然を基盤にして、様々なテーマを蝋染めで表現する。

その数あるテーマの中に、動物の骨をモチーフにした花隠れのシリーズがある。自然と調和し生きている動物たちは美しく、土に還る際は自らが養分となり他の動植物へと巡ってゆく。街の道路上などで死に、うまく循環できなかった動物たちが本来の場所で死ねたなら、というところからこのシリーズは始まった。白い布を染めていく際は、徐々に淡い色を染めていくため、工程上白い動物の骨から出来上がり、色のある花はそのあとに染めていくことになる。その工程は骨や骨を囲むぼんやりとしたものを克明にしていく作業のようである。梅田はこのテーマを蝋染めという工程を用いることで、自然に調和して生きた者の一番美しい最期を表現しようとしている。
今回の展示では循環していく動物とその土壌にも視野を広げた作品を展示する。


Ayaka Umeda is pursuing new painting expressions using the traditional wax dyeing techniques. Wax dyeing is a pattern dyeing technique in which heated wax is applied to a brush and allowed to penetrate into the cloth, so that the dye does not enter the permeated part.
The reason Umeda expresses it by dyeing is because she feels the possibility of expressing a world beyond her imagination. Dye particles moving on water cannot be completely controlled. Unlike painting, dyeing is said to be “becoming”, not to be “made”, and sometimes it creates a world that no one could imagine. Umeda expresses various themes with wax dyeing, based on the ambition of seeing a new world created by dyeing, based on the surrounding nature that she has been familiar with since her childhood.
Among the many themes there is “Last Flowers” series with animal bones motifs. Animals that live in harmony with nature are beautiful, and when they return to the soil, they themselves become nutrients and travel to other animals and plants. This series started when animals that died on the streets of the city and did not circulate properly after not being able to die in their original locations. When dyeing a white cloth, it is gradually turning to the pale color, so in the process it is made from the bones of white animals, and the colored flowers are dyed after that. The process seems to be the work of clarifying the bones and the dim objects surrounding the bones. Umeda is trying to express the most beautiful end of living creatures in harmony with nature by using the process of wax dyeing. This exhibition will show works that expand the field of view to the circulation of animals and the soil.
