春田紗良は、共感覚者、特に書記素色覚者の立場から、絵画制作及び研究を続けています。共感覚とは、ある刺激に対し通常の感覚だけでなく、異なる感覚も同時に知覚する能力のことをいい、この知覚能力者を共感覚者と呼びます。そのうちのひとつの能力である書記素色覚とは、書記素、つまり文字を見たときに色を知覚する能力のことです。正確には、色とそれに付随するいくつかの要素を知覚します。春田の場合は、色、形、質感、奥ゆき、性別、人格等を知覚するのですが、制作の際、それらを画題の一部として、あるいは動機として用います。脳神経間でほとんど無意識のうちに知覚されるこの色及びそのほかの要素は、本来この世に存在しないものであり、しばしば複数色の揺れとなって呼び起こされます。春田はこの特別な色(シキ)を表すために様々な画材を使用しますが、中でも色鉛筆の点描法に力を入れています。

今回の展示では、書記素色覚をきっかけとしながら文字そのものではなく、より高次な言語体系を用いた作品を主に色鉛筆で描いています。揺れ動く色(シキ)を形として浮かびあがらせ、ばらばらだった言葉が画面上で色となり像を結ぶ瞬間の前後を描いた展示となります。

Sara Haruta has continued to study and produce paintings from the standpoint of synesthesia, especially grapheme-colour synesthete. Synesthesia refers to the ability to sense not only normal sensations but also different sensations at the same time for a certain stimulus. This perceptual person is called a synesthete person. One of those abilities, grapheme-colour synesthesia, that is the ability to perceive colour when looking at letters. To be precise, they perceive the colour and some of the elements that accompany it.
In the case of Haruta, she perceive colors, shapes, textures, depths, gender and personalities, etc., and she uses them as part of the subject or as motive of her artworks. This color and other elements that are almost unconsciously perceived among the cranial nerves are not originally present in the world, and are often recalled as tremor of multi-colours. Haruta uses various painting materials to express this special tremor of colour (Siki), especially she is focusing on the method of drawing colored pencils among others.

In this exhibition, she uses mainly colored pencils to draw works using higher-order language systems rather than characters themselves, with her ability of grapheme-colour synesthete . It will be an exhibition depicting the moment when the broken words become colored on the screen and floats in the form of fluctuating colours (Shiki).
