梅とマングースは、片岡真梨奈と片岡亜梨沙の2人姉妹からなる創作グループとして、絵画や動画等を制作しています。
片岡真梨奈の作品の主題は「空想に侵食された日常」で、架空の少女を配置した風景を描くことによってそれを表現しています。人にとっては自身が感じるものだけが全てであり、認識しないものについてはその詳細も存在すらも無いことと同義であると考えています。自身が空想する世界が見えている人はきっと他には居ないでしょう。極限まで最小化された色と線だけで、自己の感じる世界の表現を試みています。
片岡亜梨沙の作品は「物語」をテーマとしています。物語とは、場所や人に宿るものです。なのでモチーフは自らが訪れた様々な場所や人。その写真や記憶を元に物語を想像し作品に落とし込んでいます。扱う画材は油絵具にキャンバスを用い、物語のストーリーの起伏を油彩独特の粘り強いドラマチックなタッチで描いています。
今回の展示では6ヶ所の風景をモチーフに選び、それぞれが6枚ずつ計12枚の絵を展示します。アクリル画と油絵、平塗りと混色、表現方法からテーマまで、同一モチーフだとしても作家によって生み出されるものは異なります。並べられた2人の絵を比較することで、隣に立つ人と同じ景色が見えているとは限らないという気付きを得るきっかけになる、2人展ならではの試みとなっております。


Ume to Mongoose (Plum and Mangoose) produces paintings and videos as a creative group consisting of two sisters, Marina and Arisa Kataoka.
The theme of Marina Kataoka’s work is the “daily life eroded by fantasy”, depicted by a drawing of a realistic landscape with a fictitious girl. In everyday life, we only recognize what we see and never even notice or think about things that does not exisist. And no one sees the world they fantasize about. Marina expresses the mystic world that she sees with the colors and lines that are minimized to the limit.
Arisa Kataoka’s work has the theme of “story”. A story comes from a place or a person so her works is made of various places and people that she has encountered. She imagines a story based on the photographs and memories and incorporates that into her work. Arisa’s painting technique consists canvas and oil paints. Her dramatic brush stroke enhances the scenery of her stories.
