現代日本美術の中で、具象表現は極めて重要な意味を担ってきました。抽象と具象という枠組みが西洋の美術史上で構築される中でも、単に現前の再現に留まらない日本の具象表現はいつの時代にも日本美術の根幹を担います。
具象表現は物自体の意義や世界を詳らかにすると共に、自身と他者との関係性を問い直すものでもあります。それぞれの要素の違いを明確にし、世界の有り方を私達に問いかけます。ひとつの物体にこめられた情報が膨大に入手しやすい情報化社会において、具象は非常に理知的な興味を沸きたてる表現でもあるのです。
本展では、弊画廊選抜による中堅及びベテラン作家たちの多種多様な表現スタイル、個人の内面で紡ぎだされる具象イメージや世界観の中に現代における具象表現の持つ意味と可能性を再考します。

Figurative expression has played an extremely important role in contemporary Japanese art. From the 20th century, even though the framework of abstraction and figurative was built in Western art history, Japanese figurative expression, that did not simply stay in the present reproduction, but played a key role in Japanese art throughout post-war Japanese art history.
Even after the post-war era, when the trend of art was shifted to abstract expression, activities based on concepts ”GUTAI”, ”MONO-HA”, using material such as concreteness and materialism, opened the door of the art world. In the 2000s, the center of the art scene has also moved from abstract to figurative. Nowadays with the increase of tools for reproducing visual reality such as media art and photographs, figurative expression also incorporates the problem of the pursuit of images and elements that abstract expression had in the past. As a method of expression that can explore the full potential in paintings figurative expression is at the forefront of art.
In addition to clarifying the meaning of the object itself and the world, the figurative expression also re-examines the relationship between oneself and another, and also clarifies the difference between each element, and asks us about the way of the world.
This exhibition presents a wide variety of figurative expression styles of 15 artists, selected by GALLERY ART POINT. Through the image of each artist is figurative expression, but hopefully we can reconsider the meaning and possibility of the figurative expression in contemporary art scene.
