動物の「生命力」を描く

成田淑恵が描くモチーフは一貫して動物である。
自然界にたくましくも、のびのびと生きる動物たちの愛らしい姿に成田は魅了され、その生命の輝きやぬくもりを表現している。動物は人間とは違いとてもシンプルな生き方している。そのような生と死が隣り合わせの過酷な環境だからこそ、一瞬一瞬が輝いて見えるように感じるのだろう。
成田は制作をする前に動物を必ず見に行くようにしている。
動物園・養豚場・牧場・森・家の庭など実際に動物に会いに行くことで、頭の中の勝手な思い込みや間違いに気づくとともに、新しい発見や、肌で感じるぬくもり“気づき”を大切にしている。
歳を重ねながら、、、その時に感じる想い、生命力・人間と動物の関係性による動物への被害をテーマにした「VOICE」シリーズ・動物の見る夢をテーマにした「夢見る夢」シリーズ・温暖化による自然災害など、変化をしながら今の自分に何ができるのか、自分にしか描けない絵とは何なのかを常に自問自答しながら独自の表現スタイルを追求している。
これからも今の自分にしか表現できないもの描きたいもの、探求が続いていくだろう。
そんな「今」できる表現のすべてをどうか自由に感じとっていただきたい。

By actually going to see animals in places such as zoos, pig farms, ranches, forests, and home gardens, she becomes aware of selfish assumptions and mistakes in her head, makes new discoveries, and gains a sense of the warmth she feels on her skin. I cherish it.
